In partnership with the Community Foundation of Warren County (CFWC), a group of engaged and forward-thinking residents of Sugar Grove have established the Sugar Grove Community Fund (SGCF). As a component fund of the CFWC, SGCF benefits from the Foundation’s 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Income generated from the fund will be distributed as charitable grants, supporting community projects as recommended by the Sugar Grove Community Fund Advisory Committee—a fund led by the community, for the community.
Operating under the same guiding principles as the Community Foundation of Warren County, the SGCF’s initial focus is on growing its principal investment. The goal is to build long-term value, ensuring sustainable income for future community initiatives. The principal will remain intact to generate income for years to come. A powerful example of this model is the CFWC itself, which started 75 years ago with just $25,000 and today holds over $100 million in assets—distributing more than $4.5 million annually to charitable causes across Warren County. This embodies the Foundation’s motto: “For Good…Forever.”
The Advisory Committee for the Sugar Grove Community Fund will be composed of members of the newly formed Sugar Grove Community Development Association (SGCDA). Their role includes attracting donations and recommending distributions to support local projects. Members of the Advisory Committee include:
- Gene Wilston, President
- Tyler Briggs, Vice President
- Randy Tack, Secretary
- Joe Spess, Accounts Officer
- Dru Freeborough, Advisor
- Ryan Hoffman, Advisor
- Terri Hoisington, Advisor
Current Goals/Needs:
(1) Raise $25,000 through donations which the Community Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar. Those donations will be added directly to the SGCF’s principal/investment capital, left untouched, to grow.
(2) Grow the fund to produce a steady stream of distributed income each year to support ongoing maintenance needs within the community.
We are excited about the progress being made in Sugar Grove and we hope you will donate to the future of Sugar Grove with a donation through Warren Gives. 100% of each donation to the fund goes to the fund since the Community Foundation pays all administrative and credit card processing fees, plus the match pool makes every donation through Warren Gives grow. Additionally, the first $25,000 donated to the Sugar Grove Community Fund will receive a dollar-for-dollar match from the Community Foundation of Warren County to help grow the fund.
