Mission: To provide food to those in need within 11 counties of northwest Pennsylvania while creating awareness and educating the communities on the realities of hunger.

Current Projects/Needs:

Second Harvest is the largest nonprofit food distribution organization in northwest Pennsylvania and the only food bank in the region. With 60,000 square feet of available space, Second Harvest solicits, receives, inventories, stores, and distributes food and grocery items to an anti-hunger network of 390 partner food pantries and meal programs that directly serve people facing challenging times in 11 counties.

Partner organizations include traditional food pantries, mobile food pantries, school pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and weekend BackPack Programs as well as such non-emergency agencies as childcare centers, group homes, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers.

Holiday projects include Thanksgiving and Christmas box distributions. Second Harvest provides food to member agencies at a very low service fee and delivers to member agencies outside of Erie County. All recipients receive food assistance free of charge.

The recipients include unemployed and underemployed workers, older citizens, people with disabilities, families, individuals caught in crisis situations, and children. In addition, Second Harvest distributes a box of USDA food monthly to low-income seniors at eight partner organizations in Warren County through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

Second Harvest distributed over 11.8 million pounds of food, which is equivalent to 9.8 million meals, during our most recent fiscal year. Through our agencies, Second Harvest aims to serve serves an estimated more than 101,000 individuals in northwest Pennsylvania who are food insecure, including 1 in 5 children. (The above statistics are from the most recent Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study.) Second Harvest serves the following counties: Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Venango, and Warren.
